Philip joined the deMello group in 2017 as a Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellow. He previously completed a postdoctoral position at Imperial College London, and a PhD at King’s College London. He has a breadth of multidisciplinary research experience, having studied physics and medical physics as an undergraduate, materials chemistry during his PhD, and biochemistry and microfluidic technologies in his postdoctoral work. The unifying theme in this work has always been a strong interest in nanomaterials, and in exploring their essential character and potential applications.

 

His research interests currently include:

 

• Synthesis and functionalization of photoluminescent and plasmonic nanoparticles

• Development of microfluidic reactors for nanoparticle synthesis and characterization

• DNA nanotechnology in biological sensing

• Plasmonic nanomaterials for in vitro diagnostics
